Floyd Winfred Shipp, age 85, of May, passed away peacefully, on January 23, 2024. A memorial service will be held by the family at a later date.

Winfred was born to Ernest and Callie Shipp on November 26, 1938 in Rotan, Texas. He met the love of his life, Barbara Hodges and the two were married on July 31, 1959, in Roby. Winfred attended McMurry University, in Abilene, where he also played football. He then earned a Masters Degree from Sul Ross University in Alpine. Winfred worked as a coach and teacher for 23 years before changing careers to work as a chemical engineer for 20 years. He was known as a jack of all trades, being good at anything he set his mind to.

Winfred was a longstanding member of the Southern Baptist Church. He enjoyed football and hunting, but most important to him were his family and friends. He loved spending time with family and being able to help take care of them.

Winfred is survived by his precious wife, Barbara; his daughter, Celissa Shipp Simmons of May; grandchildren, Hunter Shipp, Austin Shipp, Kerissa Bell and James K. Simmons; great-grandchildren, Ember Shipp, Rosie Shipp, Collier Bell, Evan Bell, Kamryn Botts, James Simmons, Jaley Simmons and Jeremiah Simmons, as well as many nieces, nephews and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, eight siblings and his son, Floyd Randall ‘Randy’ Shipp.

Online condolences, memories and tributes can be made to the Shipp family at www.heartlandfuneralhome.net
