The Brownwood Fire Department issued the following press release Monday:
The Brownwood Fire Department responded to a report of a structure fire at 8:05 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 13 in the 4600 block of US 377. Upon arrival fire was found in the interior of the residence near the fireplace extending into the attic. The main body of the fire was knocked down quickly and the fire was contained to the interior of the structure and attic area. Two occupants were displaced due to the damage sustained. Firefighters ventilated the smoke from the structure and performed overhaul checking for fire extension. There was heavy smoke and water damage throughout the interior of the residence. The fire was caused by a faulty fireplace, was accidental in nature and started in the interior of the building. There were no civilian injuries reported.
The fire caused $150,000 in damages.
