The Brownwood Fire Department issued the following press release Friday:
The Brownwood Fire Department was called to 2405 Southside Drive at 5:41 a.m. Friday for a report of a structure fire. Upon arrival there were visible flames showing from the attic and rear of the structure. The main body of the fire was knocked down quickly and the fire was contained to the exterior of the structure and attic area. One occupant was displaced due to the fire damage sustained. Firefighters ventilated the smoke from the structure and performed overhaul checking for fire extension. The fire was caused by a heat lamp, was accidental in nature and started on the exterior of the building. One firefighter sustained minor injuries while fighting the fire and there were no civilian injuries reported. The resident was asleep at the time of the fire and was notified of the fire by a working smoke detector.
Estimated damages are $100,000. It took 25 minutes to get the fire under control and units were on scene for 2 hours and 6 minutes.
Responding were Chief 9,Chief 92, Truck 9, Rescue 9, and Engine 92 along with Early Fire Department Engine 88, Lifeguard Ambulance, the Brownwood Police, the County Fire Marshal, and the Red Cross.
