Thomas “Tom” Morrison Wilcox, age 79 of Brownwood, left this earthly life and went to his heavenly home on December 18, 2023. He was surrounded by his loving wife, son, and daughter when he passed.
Tom was born on January 17, 1944, in New London, Connecticut, to William and Marjorie Wilcox, and was raised in Austin, Texas. He served honorably in the US Navy from 1962 to 1967. After leaving the Navy, he worked as a Dispatcher and Scheduler for the Santa Fe Railroad. In 1968, he began working on the assembly line at IBM and worked his way up to a management position through his hard work and determination. Tom retired from IBM in 1995, then began his own handyman business. He was a dedicated and loving provider for his family.
Though he grew up in the city, he was a country boy at heart. Tom realized his dream of owning a piece of the Texas Hill country in 1997. He and his wife, Carol, designed their Brownwood home. Tom spent countless hours building it with the help of his son Tommy and grandson Kevin.
Tom had been married to his loving wife, Carol, for 56 years. They have 2 children, Thomas “Tommy” Wilcox, and Leah Wilcox Farquhar. Serving the Lord was Tom’s highest priority, and his family was the joy of his life. Tom and Carol are faithful members of the Fourth and Stewart Church of Christ in Brownwood. He loved people and thrived on helping others and touched so many lives with his generosity and kindness. Tom was known for his quick wit, infectious smile, mischief, positive outlook, and puns. He loved being outdoors, hunting, fishing, spending time with his family and especially loved being PawPaw to his grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Tom is survived by his wife of 56 years, Carol Fritcher Wilcox; son Thomas Fritcher Wilcox and wife Jenny; daughter Leah Wilcox Farquhar and husband Jimmy; grandsons Jimmy Dale Wilcox and wife Gina; Kevin Andrew Wilcox and wife Mirah; granddaughters Lauren Brooke Farquhar; Jordan Haley Trahan and husband Colby; 7 great grandchildren, 4 step grandchildren and 11 step great grandchildren.
A memorial service and gospel singing is planned at Fourth and Stewart Church of Christ in Brownwood, Texas on Saturday, December 23, 2023, at 1:00 pm.
The family would like to express their deep gratitude to the staff of Brownwood Nursing and Rehabilitation and Alpha Omega Hospice for their loving and compassionate care of our beloved husband, Dad, Daddy, PawPaw and Great PawPaw.
