During Monday night’s meeting of the Brownwood ISD Board of Trustees, a public hearing was held on the FIRST financial report.
Assistant superintendent Mitch Moore reported BISD graded 94 on a scale of 100, which is considered superior achievement, as the report is based on data from the 2021-22 school year.
Of the 20 indicators, BISD received the maximum points on all but two. Those were:
- Number of days of cash on hand, current investments sufficient to cover operating expenditures. BISD stands at 75 days, up from 65 a year ago, but must reach 90 days for a score of 10. The school district received a grade of 6.
- Measure of current assets to current liabilities, sufficient to cover short term debt. BISD graded an 8 with a 2.9 times, and must reach 3 times for a grade of 10. A year ago, BISD graded at 2.5 times and received a grade of 6.
Also during the meeting, reports were provided on Career Technology Education, as the Business Industry Trade Showcase will be Feb. 26, as well as Maintenance.
During executive session, the board approved the hiring of guardians for security on campuses.
Earlier in the meeting, an update on the bond improvements was shared:
- The Student Activity Center indoor facility at the high school is 95 percent complete in terms of design with construction still slated to begin shortly after the new year.
- Gordon Wood Stadium is in the design phase as well and concepts are being examined to determine exactly what will be included.
- The renovation of gymnasium locker rooms is expected soon.
- Elementary gym work will begin Dec. 21 with demolition. Floors must be complete and painted by Jan. 5 to allow for proper drying time.
- Coggin Auditorium demolition starts Dec. 18 and will be finished by Jan. 8. ADA compliance work, such as hand rails, will be handled by the school district during this time as well.
- Tennis court construction is complete. The concrete has to cure for 28 days before it can be painted and surfaced, which should take place next week. Awnings are in the process of being constructed and upon completion of those concrete will be poured and bleachers installed. Security fencing will be tied to in with the bleachers. The school side of the courts should be complete by Jan. 27, ahead of the Brownwood Invitational, and the track side will be completed as soon as possible after that date, if not at that time.
