DUBLIN – The Brownwood Lady Lions rebounded from their rough outing at Jim Ned earlier this week with a pair of victories Thursday to kick off the Dublin tournament.
The Lady Lions began the day with a 49-41 victory over De Leon.
Brownwood led De Leon 12-5 after one quarter, 24-17 at halftime, and 43-31 going into the fourth quarter.
After shooting just 12 percent from the floor in Tuesday’s loss at Jim Ned, the Lady Lions rebounded with a 43 percent shooting effort (15 of 35), including 35 percent (6 of 17) from three-point land, where Brownwood did not convert a shot in its previous outing. The Lady Lions also converted 53 percent (13 of 23) of their free throws, grabbed 25 rebounds and forced 14 steals, while turning the ball over 20 times.
Hannah Deen matched her season-high with 20 points scored trailed by Kimber Green with 13, Icess Hall with six, Adyson Neel and Miranda Northcutt with three apiece, and Kate Tindol and Trinity Roberts with two points each.
In the second contest of the day, the Lady Lions routed host tournament Dublin, 57-19.
Brownwood shot 36 percent (20 of 55) from the floor, 21 percent (5 of 23) from three-point land, and 54 percent (12 of 22) at the free throw line. The Lady Lions also recorded 36 rebounds, 27 steals and committed just 14 turnovers.
The Lady Lions were up 26-3 after one quarter, 42-9 at halftime and, 50-15 through three frames.
Roberts poured in 16 points followed by Green with 15, Icess Hall with 12, Nell with five, Deen with four, Northcutt with three, and Nylah Hall with two points.
The Lady Lions (8-3) wrap up pool play at 2:40 p.m. Friday against Cross Plains.
