The American Southwest Conference announced the 2023 volleyball All-Conference Teams and five Howard Payne Lady Jackets were selected.
Brylee Awbrey – Second Team All-Conference – Outside hitter
Junior outside hitter Brylee Awbrey appeared in 99 sets over 25 games for the Yellow Jackets, starting in 23 of those. Awbrey led HPU in digs accumulating 358 with an average of 3.62 digs per set. She recorded 24 total blocks, eight of those solo as well. On the offensive side, Awbrey finished third on the team in kills with 195. She also had 35 assists and 11 aces.
Riley Brittain – Second Team All-Conference – Setter
Senior setter Riley Brittain appeared in 96 sets across 24 total games for HPU. Brittain had a historic season, recording 711 assists this year. Over her career she has recorded 1673 total assists, placing her fifth all-time in HPU history for career assists. Averaging 7.47 assists per set, Brittain ranked second in the ASC. She finished third in digs for the Lady Jackets with 264 while also recording 64 kills, 21 aces, and 14 blocks.
Rylee McAlexander – All-Conference Honorable Mention – Middle hitter
Freshman middle hitter Rylee McAlexander appeared in 91 sets over 25 total games for the Lady Jackets. McAlexander led HPU in kills with 217 with an outstanding .299 attacking percentage, ranking her third in the ASC. She recorded 21 aces, one assist, 63 digs, and 44 blocks as well.
Makenzie Weddel – All-Conference Honorable Mention – Outside hitter
Freshman outside hitter Makenzie Weddel appeared in 86 sets across 23 total games for the Lady Jackets. Weddel led the ASC in aces per set averaging 0.54. She led HPU and ranked second amongst the ASC in total aces with 48. Weddel also finished second in kills for the Lady Jackets with 216 while also recording 17 assists. On the defensive side, Weddel ranked second in digs with a total 267. She had 19 blocks as well.
Brook O’Neal – All-Conference Honorable Mention – Rightside hitter
Junior rightside hitter Brook O’Neal appeared in 90 sets across 25 games for HPU. O’Neal led the Lady Jackets in total blocks with 64, 16 being solo. She recorded 55 digs and finished fourth for HPU in kills with 163. O’Neal had four assists and one ace as well.
