ROUND ROCK – The Zephyr Bulldogs placed fifth in the final team standings at the UIL Class 1A boys cross country state championships Friday morning at Old Settlers Park.
The Bulldogs generated 130 points which left them behind only state champion Slidell (73 points), runner-up Jayton (78), Comstock (106), and Cumby Miller Grove (123). Coming in sixth place was Sulphur Bluff (168), a team that defeated Zephyr at the Region III-A meet.
Junior Eli Williams led the charge for Zephyr with a 17th-place overall time of 17:40,8, which was 1:15.8 back of state champion Sebastian Talamantez (16:25.1) of Comstock. Sophomore Aaron Fagan came in 25th clocked at 17:56.0 followed by Jim Evetts (34th, 18:31.1), Riley McCuller (51st, 18:39.6), Reese Hamm (88th, 19:36.6), Cash Whisenhunt (109th, 20:18.5), and Cooper Walls (144th, 22:38.7).
Brownwood Lady Lion Sidney Windham will run in the Class 4A girls state championships at 11:40 a.m. Saturday at the same location.
