Brookesmith ISD recently celebrated the accomplishments of its students in the Accelerated Reader Program. Brookesmith began using the Accelerated Reader program at the beginning of this school year. Accelerated Reader is a supplementary reading program that provides guided instruction for students up to 12th grade. The goal is to improve students’ reading ability through incentivizing their reading activities. The more they read, along with the quizzes they take, the better readers they become. All grades, PK-12 are involved with it. Categories for competition are Pre-K thru 2nd grade; 3rd thru 5th grade; 6th thru 8th grade; and 9th thru 12th.
Librarian Teresa Contreras manages the program. She presented the following individual and class awards:
· Highest Points for Pre-K, 1st and 2nd grades, awarded to – Ms. Nelson’s 2nd grade class and wins the Spirit Stick!
· Highest earned points PK-2, awarded to Second grader Annabel Land.
· Highest Points for 3rd-5th grade, awarded to – Ms. Walls’ 5th grade class and wins the Spirit Stick!
· Highest earned points 3rd-5th grade, awarded to 5th grader Katie Bates!
· Highest Points for 6th -8th grade, awarded to – Ms. Moreno’s 8th grade class and wins the Spirit Stick!
· Highest earned points 6th-8th grade, awarded to 8th grader Shelby Church.
· Highest Points for high school, awarded to Ms. Graves’ class and and wins the Spirit Stick!
· Highest earned points for high school, awarded to Freshman Aryn Ribble
Reading accomplishments are celebrated every six weeks.
