LUBBOCK – Brownwood Lady Lion Sidney Windham is bound for the UIL Class 4A girls cross country state meet after finishing 16th overall at the Region I-4A meet Tuesday at Mae Simmons Park.
Windham, a junior, was clocked at 13:00.5, which ranked seventh among runners not on a state-qualifying team. The top 10 runners not on a qualifying team also earn a trip to the state meet, which will take place at 11:40 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 4 at Old Settlers Park in Round Rock.
The Lady Lions placed seventh as a team with 240 points, which left them behind regional champion Canyon Randall (35 points), runner-up Canyon (114), state qualifiers Sanger (120) and Decatur (141), as well as Dumas (149) and Andrews (189).
Along with Windham, members of the District 6-4A champion Lady Lions running in Lubbock included Emma Stegemoller (29th, 13:17.2), Kate Tindol (50th, 13:43.8), Lyndi Biasiolli (77th, 14:23.7) Haylee Adkins (88th, 14:38.5), Braycee Lee (91st, 14:42.1), and Talia Craff (113th, 15:07.3).
The Brownwood Lions, the third-place team out of District 6-4A, came in 19th in the final Region I-4A boys team standings with 475 points.
Making their second straight regional appearance, the Lions were led by Bennett Windham (43rd, 18:13.3), Noah Lambert (82nd, 19:10.1), Aidan Pena (108th, 19:41.4), Mark Martinez (130th, 20:41.0), Stephen Rodriguez (134th, 20:47.4), Caden Carnes (149th, 12:18.5) and Ty Tindol (163rd, 22:52.1).
State qualifying teams for the boys were Canyon (20 points), San Elizario (63 points), Dumas (118) and Andrews (134).
