Laura Kathryn Andrews, beloved mother, grandmother, sister, and cherished member of the Coleman community, peacefully passed away on October 22, 2023, at the age of 76. Born on April 3, 1947, in Kermit, Texas, Laura, known to all as Kathy, touched the lives of those around her with her compassionate spirit, artistic talents, and unwavering love for her family.
Throughout Kathy’s life, she embraced her creative abilities, delighting in various artistic pursuits such as oil painting, watercolor painting, stained glass making, and quilting. Her passion for the arts led her to become an esteemed member of the Coleman Fine Arts League, Coleman Heritage Arts and Preservation Society, and Heritage Hall Museum, where she shared her talents and contributed to the cultural enrichment of her community.
Kathy’s role as a mother and grandmother was one she cherished deeply. Her children, Michelle Maxwell and Greg Palmer, along with her adored grandchildren were the light of her life. She wholeheartedly embraced the joys of family and the bonds that held them together.
With an entrepreneurial spirit, Kathy owned and operated The Cottage Restaurant in Coleman for many years. Her dedication to providing outstanding service and delicious cuisine made her establishment a beloved gathering place for the community, creating countless memories for all who gathered at her table. Kathy was really a jack of all trades and could do just about anything, including her ability to do home décor.
Surviving Kathy are her children, Michelle Maxwell and husband Johnny, and Greg Palmer; her stepdaughter, Amy Andrews; her treasured five grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren; her sisters, Joyce Miller and Donita Dusek and husband David; her brother, Max Hirrill and wife Cindy; and her mother-in-law, Bertha Andrews. She will be lovingly remembered by her family and friends for her warm-heartedness, creative spirit, and unwavering love.
Kathy is preceded in death by her parents, Clifford and Mary Hirrill; her husband, Charles Leslie Andrews; and her sister, Kay Zeboski.
A memorial service celebrating Kathy’s life will be held at Heritage Hall, 400 W. College Avenue, in Coleman on Saturday, October 28, 2023, at 2:00 pm. Friends, family, and all whose lives were touched by Kathy are invited to attend and pay their respects to this remarkable woman who enriched the lives of so many. A private interment was held in the Coleman City Cemetery. Services are entrusted to Stevens Funeral Home, 400 W. Pecan Street, in Coleman.
