The Brownwood JV Lions improved to 9-0 overall and 3-0 in District 2-4A Division I action with a 52-8 victory over Lubbock Wednesday night in their home finale at Gordon Wood Stadium.
Sophomore quarterback Robbie Robinson stepped in for injured starter Dallas Shumaker and completed 4 of 6 passes for 45 yards and two touchdowns, while also rushing for over 100 yards with three more touchdowns and a pair of two-point conversions. Sophomore receiver Grant Gray caught two passes for 20 yards and one touchdown. Sophomore tight end Brinson Martin also caught a touchdown pass. Junior running backs Kaleb Grabast and Case Burnett each ran for a touchdown.
Sophomore kicker Eliuth Valenciano connected on all four of his extra-point attempts.
The Lions defense forced four punts and two interceptions by Martin and sophomore defensive back Raven Prado. The defense was close to their 5th shutout of the season, only giving up a touchdown with 1 second left in the first half. Robinson, Martin, Elias Munoz and Jonathan Bush led the way with multiple tackles each. Gray, Durham Brown, and Caven Webster had multiple physical hits. The Lions have outscored their first nine opponents of the season, 347-61 and their three district opponents, 157-8.
The JV Lions will play for the undefeated season and back-to-back district championships at Andrews next week on Thursday night at 6:30 p.m.

Freshman Lions 35, Lubbock Coronado 19
Trailing 19-14 early in the third period, the Brownwood Freshman Lions recorded the final three touchdowns to improve to 3-0 in District 2-4A Division I and 5-4 for the season with a 35-19 win over Lubbock Estacado Wednesday night at Gordon Wood Stadium.
Rory McNeese threw touchdown passes of 28 yards and 18 yards to Conner Cornelius, and booted both extra points, to push the Lions in front, 28-19, by the end of the third quarter.
In the fourth quarter, the Lions got a stop in the red zone with 2:30 left, then McNeese ran untouched 88 yards to the end zone on the next snap boost to the lead to 35-19 after his PAT.
The Lions tied the score at 7 in the first period on a 13-yard touchdown pass from McNeese to Cornelius, the first of his three touchdown receptions on the day.
Trailing 13-7 after Wyatt Wolf blocked an extra point attempt, the Lions surged in front, 14-13, just before halftime on a 65-yard pick six by Wolf, coupled with McNeese’s extra point.
Along with the interception return and blocked PAT, Wolf recorded five tackles which tied for the team lead with Nick Rodriguez and Waylon Harrington, who had one behind the line of scrimmage. Levi Moss finished with four tackles and forced a fumble and Isaac Gonzales tallied three tackles for loss.

Abilene Wylie 28, Combined Team 18
ABILENE – The Brownwood Subvarsity Combined Team slipped to 3-6 on the season with a 28-18 loss at Abilene Wylie Wednesday.
Hayden Christiansen threw a touchdown pass to Noah Grummert and ran for another, while Grummert also tacked on a rushing score.
Defensively for the Lions, Madix Coalson led the team with five tackles, Hayden Padgett recorded two tackles for loss, and Josiah Riley, Kayden Avalos and Luke McGinnis were each credited with a sack. Also, Lajon Bush forced a fumble that Gummert recovered.
