Brownwood ISD issued the following press release Monday morning:
This month’s spotlight teacher is Leslie Wood. Ms. Wood is a kindergarten teacher at Northwest Elementary. She is a state certified teacher (Elementary 1 -8, Reading 1-8, EC PK-K, and ESL PK-8) and holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Education from The University of Texas at Tyler. Ms. Wood has been with Brownwood ISD since 2018.
Ms. Wood is a phenomenal teacher. She works hard with each of her students to make learning fun from the moment they enter the classroom. On the very first day of school her kindergarten students were already engaged and participating in reading centers! Ms. Wood not only goes above and beyond for her students, but also her team by stepping up to provide support wherever needed.
We are blessed to have teachers like Ms. Wood, who are passionate and dedicated to providing quality education for students and strength and support to her team.
Our staff spotlight honoree for the month is Kristi Owen. Ms. Owen is our Secondary Curriculum Coordinator. She is a state-certified teacher (Elementary 1-8, Biology 6-12), and principal (EC-12). She holds a Masters of Education degree in Instructional Leadership and a Bachelor of Science degree in Biology and Secondary Education from Howard Payne University. Ms. Owen taught Biology at Brownwood High School from 1998-2018. She served as an assistant principal at Brady High School and Woodland Heights Elementary before moving into her current position. This is her 25th year with Brownwood ISD.
Ms. Owen consistently goes the extra mile for teachers, helping them get on their feet and expand their curriculum. She is extremely supportive of every teacher she works with. Ms. Owen is on campus everyday offering teachers resources, support, and mentoring that staff find invaluable. She continually helps teachers create fun and engaging activities that are not only rigorous, but also keep the students actively involved. Anyone who has worked with her knows how valuable she is to the district and how blessed we are to have her.
We are thankful to have skilled professional staff like Ms. Owen who routinely go the extra mile to ensure our teachers have the best tools to be successful inside the classroom.
