MAY – The May Tigers fought off the Lometa Hornets for a 62-54 homecoming victory Friday night to maintain an undefeated record in the District 14-A Division I action.
The Tigers (6-2, 2-0) amassed 424 yards of total offense – 255 passing and 169 rushing – against the Lometa (3-5, 0-2) defense.
Braden Steele completed 9 of 14 passes for 255 yards with four touchdowns as Ben Harrell caught three passes for 73 yards and a score, Mikey Scheriger finished with two grabs for 67 yards and a touchdown, and Jackson Lusk and Kaden Watkins hauled in scoring receptions of 54 and 42 yards, respectively. Hagan Hester also caught a 9-yard pass.
On the ground, Harrell rushed for a team-best 85 yards and three touchdowns, Steele added 64 yards and a score and Scheriger chipped in 20 yards with a trip to the end zone.
Standouts for the Tiger defense were Harrell (13 tackle), Scheriger (9 tackles, a fumble caused, a fumble recovery, and a pass defended), Lusk (9 tackles and a tackle for loss), Steele (7 tackles, a tackle for loss, and a pass defended), Cayson Dail (6 tackles and a pass defended), Wyatt Hardy (3 tackles and a fumble recovery), Levi McInnis (2 tackles), and Watkins, Hester, Ryland Billadeau and Cutter Dearick (1 tackle each).
Next week, May (6-2, 2-0) ventures to Santa Anna (2-4, 0-1), which was dealt a 54-0 loss by Jonesboro (6-1, 2-0) Friday night.

Zephyr 66, Mullin 0
MULLIN – The reigning District 15-A Division II champion Zephyr Bulldogs collected their most lopsided victory of the season in their second league outing Thursday night, 66-0 at Mullin.
The Bulldogs (6-2, 2-0) needed a mere 14 plays to amass 215 yards – 191 on the ground and 24 through the air – and eight touchdowns.
Jim Evetts rushed for 70 yards and a touchdown, Karsen Floyd added 59 yards and two scores, Chayden Woodcock chipped in a 41-yard touchdown carry and Tripp Ballard rushed for 21 yards with two trips to the end zone.
Through the air, Wyatt Stevens connected on 2 of 3 passes – both touchdowns – for 24 yards. Woodcock caught one scoring toss from 17 yards out and Trapper Schoenhals added a 7-yard touchdown reception.
Defensively, Floyd returned a fumble 10 yards for a touchdown as Mullin generated -51 yards of total offense – 22 pass and -73 rushing – with three turnovers.
Ballard led the way with nine tackles followed by Floyd with seven, Schoenhals with six and Woodcock and Johnny Paul Evans-Rollins with five apiece.
Next week, Zephyr hosts Sidney (5-2, 1-0), whose district bye fell this week.

Blanket 64, Gustine 14
GUSTINE – The Blanket Tigers opened their District 15-A Division II schedule with a convincing 64-14 triumph over Gustine Thursday night.
Blanket (4-3, 1-0) finished with 221 yards of total offense – 202 rushing and 19 passing – against the Gustine (3-5, 0-2) defense.
Kannon Kensing rushed for 87 yards and three touchdowns, Cameron Aultman added 59 yards and three scores, AC French tacked on 51 yards and a pair of touchdowns and Adam McLaughlin rushed once for 5 yards.
Gage Jones completed his lone pass attempt for 19 yards and a touchdown to McLaughlin.
Defensively for the Tigers, Kensing logged four tackles, a sack and recovered two fumbles; Aultman notched four tackles; Mason Beck recorded three tackles and a sack; Isaac Smith also finished with three tackles; and French registered two tackles and a sack.
Next week, Blanket hosts Mullin (0-8, 0-2), which is coming off a 66-0 loss to Zephyr.

Brookesmith 60, Lohn 12
LOHN – The Brookesmith Mustangs kicked off their District 16-A Division II schedule with a resounding 60-12 road victory over the Lohn Eagles Thursday night.
Leading the charge for the Mustangs (4-3, 1-0) was Adyn Ribble, who rushed for 253 yards and seven touchdowns on just 15 carries. Issac Haby scored a pair of touchdowns as well – one rushing and one receiving.
On the defensive end, Jace Moreno and Vegas Gilliam each intercepted a pass for the Mustangs.
Next week, Brookesmith ventures to No. 4 Richland Springs (8-0, 2-0), which picked up a 56-24 victory over No. 10 Rochelle Friday night.

Richland Springs 56, Rochelle 24
RICHLAND SPRINGS – The Class A Division II No. 4 Richland Springs Coyotes are in prime position to reclaim a district championship following Friday night’s 56-24 home victory over the No. 10 Rochelle Hornets.
For the second week in a row, Richland Springs (8-0, 2-0) knocked off a Top 10 district opponent and is one win away from securing no worse than a tie for the District 16-A Division II championship
In Friday’s win over Rochelle (7-1, 1-1), the Coyotes manufactured 352 yards of total offense – 247 rushing and 105 passing.
Gage Behrens led the way with 125 yards on the ground and a pair of touchdowns for Richland Springs, while Billy Perry chipped in 89 yards with three trips to the end zone. Perry also completed 3 of 7 passes for 60 yards with a 37-yard touchdown to Jayden Sutherland. Hutton Rogers finished with a team-best 39 receiving yards on a pair of receptions.
Defensively for the Coyotes, Perry recorded 5.5 tackles with 4 sacks, including a safety; Kenny Triplett recorded 4.5 tackles; and Sutherland and Rogers each recorded 2.5 tackles. Behrens recovered two fumbles for Richland Springs and returned one for touchdown.
Next week, Richland Springs (8-0, 2-0) hosts Brookesmith (4-3, 1-0), which won its district opener over Lohn, 60-12, Thursday.

Coleman 29, Hamilton 22
COLEMAN – The Coleman Bluecats avoided an upset bid and second straight District 5-2A Division I setback as they rallied to upend the Hamilton Bulldogs, 29-22, Friday night.
Coleman (6-2, 3-1) trailed Hamilton (3-4, 0-3) throughout the contest – 6-0 after one quarter, 14-8 at halftime and 22-16 through through periods – but owned a 13-0 scoring advantage in the final period to snatch the victory.
Brayden Torres scored on a 2-yard run with 5:07 left to push the Bluecats in front, 23-22, and Jadin Jackson added the final score on a 23-yard carry with 1:49 remaining.
The Bluecats finished with 327 yards of total offense – 229 rushing and 98 passing – and overcame a pair of turnovers. Hamilton tallied 335 yards – 190 through the air and 145 on the ground – and coughed up the ball just once.
Jackson finished with 100 rushing yards and two touchdowns for Coleman trailed by Torres with 63 yards and a pair of scores and Brent Bouldin with 61 rushing yards.
Torres completed 6 of 13 passes for 98 yards with two picks as Hunter Lackey grabbed two receptions for 66 yards, Blaze Hronek caught two passes for just 2 yards, and Anthony Espitia and Jackson added receptions of 19 and 11 yards, respectively.
Next week, Coleman will enjoy its bye and return to league play Oct. 27 at De Leon (6-2, 3-1), which is coming off a 44-8 loss to district front-runner Tolar (6-1, 3-0).

Jacksboro 30, Comanche 22
COMANCHE – The Comanche Indians attempted to handed the Harris Ratings Weekly Class 3A Division II No. 10 Jacksboro Tigers their first loss, but couldn’t hold the advantage late in a 30-22 decision.
The loss drops reigning District 5-3A Division II champion Comanche to 0-2 against league foes and 3-4 overall, as the Indians’ skid has reached four games after an undefeated start.
Down 7-0 after one quarter, Comanche rallied to take a 20-16 halftime lead over Jacksboro (7-0, 2-0). Tied at 22 through three periods, the Tigers produced the only points of the fourth quarter.
The Indians finished with just 255 yards of total offense – 142 rushing and 113 passing – against the Tigers.
Comanche quarterback Layden Welch connected on just 4 of 18 passes for 113 yards with one touchdown to Baylor commit Kyler Beaty, who finished with two grabs for 65 yards. C.T. Buford added two receptions for 48 yards.
On the ground, Welch rushed for 66 yards and a touchdown on 14 carries while Sawyer Wilkerson chipped in 57 yards and a score on 15 rushes.
Meanwhile, Jacksboro tallied 350 yards – 204 passing and 146 rushing. Lando Belcher was 11 of 17 through the air with a scoring toss, Luke Sams rushed for 101 yards and two touchdowns, and Cannon Valenzuela caught six passes for 119 yard and scored once.
Defensively for the Indians, Diego Gutierrez led the way with 16 tackles trailed by Welch, Chance Boswell and Ezequiel Medrano with 11 each and Isaac Morales with 10 tackles. Raymond Crossland recovered a fumble as well.
Next week, Comanche (3-4, 0-2) heads to Dublin (1-6, 0-2), which fell to Millsap (4-2, 2-0) Friday night.

Albany 49, Cross Plains 0
CROSS PLAINS – Facing the defending state champion and No. 1-ranked Albany Lions, the Cross Plains Buffaloes were unable to steal their first District 6-2A Division II victory as they were blanked 49-0 Friday night.
Albany (7-0, 2-0) produced 308 total yards – 165 rushing and 143 passing – against the Cross Plains (2-5, 0-2) defense without a turnover. The Buffaloes mustered 114 yards – 67 on the ground and 47 through the air – with one turnover.
For the Buffaloes, Kade Purvis completed 5 of 15 passes for 47 yards and rushed for 8 yards. Theron Albrecht contributed 36 yards on the ground and Dusty Wyatt chipped in 25. Tyler Mackey caught two passes for 26 yards and Alex Parker added a pair of receptions for 21 yards.
Albany received 143 passing yards and two touchdowns from Chip Chambers; 90 rushing yards and three touchdowns from Adam Hill; 56 yards on the ground and two scores from Tyler Chapman; and a team-best four receptions for 70 yards from Cason Fairchild.
Defensively for Cross Plains, Caleb Blue recorded seven tackles followed by Theron Albrecht with six, Gray Albrecht with five, and Wyatt and Michael Samora with four tackles apiece.
Next week, Cross Plains heads to Hamlin (5-2 1-1), which is coming off a 63-8 loss to Miles (5-2, 1-1).
