I traveled to Eagle Pass to take a stand and call attention to the thousands of migrants pouring across the border. Last month, 232,000 individuals crossed the southern border illegally – a 14% increase compared to last year. What I witnessed in Eagle Pass was nothing short of heartbreaking for the migrants and a dereliction of duty by the Biden Administration.
I returned to Washington with a message for my colleagues wrestling with funding the government: no border security, no funding.
President Biden’s policies have allowed dangerous drug cartels to gain control of our southern border, enabling the smuggling and trafficking of over 7.5 million people in two years. Over 150 individuals on the known or suspected terrorist watch lists have entered our country illegally.
House Republicans already took action by passing H.R. 2, the Secure the Border Act of 2023. This bill reinstates border wall construction, deploys crucial technological advancements, increases the number of Border Patrol agents, provides well-deserved bonuses, and much more.
Congress now has a unique opportunity to secure a victory for the American people by securing our southern border. The chaos at our border is entirely preventable if we seize this moment. Coupling border security with government funding is the only mechanism to achieve this goal.
President Biden faces a pivotal decision: he can keep the government open by working with Congressional Republicans to secure the southern border. No border security, no funding; it’s time to address this crisis head-on.
LIVE From Eagle Pass
I went LIVE from Eagle Pass on Mornings with Maria to show the stream of migrants entering our southern border. Watch here or below for my thoughts on the border crisis.
Defunding Biden’s ‘Remain in Texas’ Migrant Policy
It seems all it took for the President to realize there was a crisis at the border was a little complaining from his fellow Democrat politicians. Last month, Massachusetts Governor Maura Healey declared a state of emergency due to the influx of illegal migrants. The next day, New York City Mayor Eric Adams stated the alien influx was “not sustainable” and would “destroy New York City.”
They don’t mind the border crisis as long as it stays far away from their states.
So what is the President’s solution? Instead of securing the border, the Biden Administration is considering creating a ‘Remain-in-Texas’ policy that would force our state to be the sole provider for the millions of illegal migrants crossing the southern border every year. Not on my watch. President Biden’s ‘Remain-in-Texas’ must be stopped.
My amendment to ban President Biden’s “Remain-in-Texas” policy passed the House as part of the Homeland Security Appropriations Bill this week. I will not tolerate this administration’s attempt to force Texans to bear the brunt of their immigration crisis.

Investigating the Rising Threat of Terrorism in Africa
I held a hearing as Chairman of the Subcommittee on Counterrorims, Law Enforcement, and Intelligence on the rising threats posed by terrorist groups in Africa. Regional instability has made Africa a birthplace for terror. We need to continue to build strong partnerships with our allies in the region to ensure the safety of our homeland and Americans abroad.
I was pleased to be joined by members from the Texas Farm Bureau this week in Washington. I will continue working to ensure that our farmers and ranchers can operate efficiently without federal overreach. Thank you for visiting!
Defunding the Biden Laptop-Deniers DHS “Experts Group”
Tens of thousands of migrants are flooding our southern border daily while the Biden Administration wastes its resources setting up an ‘Experts Group’ that includes former Director of National Intelligence James Clapper and former Director of the Central Intelligence Agency John Brennan.
These men abused their positions of power perpetuating the Russia Hoax and serving as partisan operatives for the Democrat Party. I’m proud to introduce legislation to defund this ‘experts group’ and ensure the Department of Homeland Security remains focused on its true mission—defending American citizens. Read more about the bill in the New York Post here.
