During Tuesday morning’s meeting, the Brownwood City Council on third/final reading approved an ordinance setting charges for fees, rentals, licenses and permits for the City of Brownwood for 2023-24 fiscal year.
At the Sept. 12 meeting, citizens expressed their concerns over the potential fees that were to be imposed at the Massey Sports Complex for travel baseball and softball teams.
“There was discussion in the last council meeting about setting fees for tournaments as well as practices. Our staff went back and met again with those community members and league representatives and we were able to come up with some alternatives to the fee structure,” said Brownwood City Manager Emily Crawford. “The bottom line is making sure we have a way to schedule practices so that the field are not overused and that we are able to capitalize on the benefit of the tournaments.”
The ordinance was amended as follows from the reading at the Sept. 12 City Council meeting:
1. $5 charge per team has been removed from the tournament fees.
2. Hourly rate for single practices with lights outside of regular season has been changed from $25 to $20.
3. Time period for Travel Team Season Packages has been changed to January 1st – June 30th and July 1st – December 31st.
4. The phrase “All fees are subject to facility booking policies” has been added to all facility rentals.
The full ordinance is listed below:
