The Brownwood Police Department issued the following press release Wednesday morning:
On Tuesday, September 19, 2023, at approximately 8:50 p.m., Brownwood police officers were dispatched to a shooting at an apartment in the Sunset Terrace complex, 1500 Terrace St.
On arrival, officers went to the apartment in question and confronted 20-year-old Seth Thomas Sheffler of May as he exited the rear door of the apartment. Sheffler had fresh blood about his face and body and appeared to have been beaten. It also appeared that he was under the influence of some type of narcotic. The occupants of the apartment were detained, and several witnesses were located.
The Criminal Investigations Division was contacted. In their investigation, it was learned that Sheffler was at this apartment purchasing illegal narcotics. During this drug deal, an argument ensued and Sheffler retrieved a firearm and began shooting. No one was struck by the bullets. In response, several subjects attacked Sheffler, causing his injuries.
Detectives were able to gather statements and physical evidence at the scene.
Sheffler was transported by ambulance to the Hendrick Brownwood Medical Center where he received medical care for minor injuries. He was then arrested and transported to the Brown County Jail where he was charged with Aggravated Assault with a Deadly Weapon.
