The training is specifically designed for active shooting situations in schools. Any certified law enforcement officer in Texas may attend the training. There is no cost for the training.
The training will be conducted by the ALERRT organization. ALERRT stands for “Advanced Law Enforcement Rapid Response Training.” Their website states “The ALERRT Center at Texas State University was created in 2002 as a partnership between Texas State University, the San Marcos TX Police Department, and the Hays County TX Sheriff’s Office to address the need for active shooter response training for first responders. In 2013, ALERRT at Texas State University was named the National Standard in Active Shooter Response Training by the FBI.” More than 300,000 law enforcement officers and other first responders have been trained by ALERRT.
