The Brownwood Police Department issued the following press release Friday morning:
On Friday, September 15, 2023, at approximately 12:45 a.m., officers were dispatched to a residence in the 100 block of Bowie Circle regarding the report of a fight. The caller informed communications that the suspect of the assault was leaving in a white SUV.
Officer James Wells arrived in the area and observed the SUV leaving Bowie Circle and traveling west, toward S.F. Austin. Officer Wells initiated a traffic stop on the vehicle, but the driver refused to stop. A pursuit was initiated.
The SUV traveled on S.F. Austin, onto Indian Creek Road, then onto Phillips St. In the 1600 block of Phillips St the SUV came to a stop and the driver exited the vehicle. As the driver exited the vehicle, he was approached by officers and given commands that he refused to obey. Officer Wells and Sergeant Zane Taylor were required to use physical force to stop the suspects’ resistance and he was taken into custody.
The suspect, 39-year-old Ramiro Juan Huerta of Brownwood, was charged with Assault Causing Bodily Injury to a Family Member, Evading Arrest/Detention with a Vehicle, Resisting Arrest, and Assault by Threat/Offensive Touch.
During the investigation of the initial complaint, it was learned that Huerta was at his girlfriend’s residence on Bowie Circle when an argument began. The argument turned physical when Huerta struck the female several times. The females mother arrived on scene around midnight and Huerta argued with her and pushed her to the ground before leaving the residence in the SUV.
