Our rock and our hero left this world to live with our Savior on September 6, 2023, at the age of 75. A celebration of his life will be announced at a later date.
Bobby Gene Hopper was born to Bert and Clara Stegemollar Hopper on October 26, 1947. He was the youngest of the family next to two older sisters, Katheline Hopper Bessent and Joeann Hopper Kunkel Gault. Bobby grew up in Priddy, Texas where he graduated in 1965. He met the love of his life, Sherry Hughes Hopper when he was just 19 years old and she was 15 years old. The two married in Early, Texas on June 7, 1969 and they embarked on a lifetime of love and happiness of 54 years. Bobby and Sherry started a family and raised two daughters together, Shauna Hopper Portillo and Hilary Hopper Tyler, both of Early.
Bobby was a husband, father and grandfather. He worked for GTE the majority of his adult life as a lineman and later for Verizon as a general maintenance technician until retirement. Bobby enjoyed his retirement and there was not anything that he couldn’t fix! He enjoyed the wildlife on his home place and enjoyed the company of his three dogs. Most of all, he enjoyed being “Poppy” to his 10 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren. Bobby will be loved and missed for a lifetime. He will never be out of our hearts or off of our minds. May God keep him and comfort him until we all meet again.
Bobby is survived by his wife of 54 years, Sherry Hopper of Early; his two daughters, Shauna Portillo and husband Sergio of Early, Hilary Tyler of Early; grandchildren, Amanda Rodgers Tryon and husband Kip of California, Mason Rodgers and wife Marissa of Abilene, Hallie Steele and husband Blake of Brownwood, Tyson Tyler and significant other Hadley Monroe of Brownwood, Cason Cantu of Early, Ethen, Alexa, and Julie Portillo of Early, Ashton Tarlton of Midland, and Kailyn Hopper Garton of Fort Worth; great grandchildren, Odin and Inara Tryon, Beau Steele, and Xavier Rodgers; sister, Joeann Gault and husband Bill Gault of Comanche.
