The 117th Brownwood Area Chamber of Commerce Membership Banquet, sponsored by Kohler, took at the Brownwood Coliseum Thursday evening, where the family of Sarah “Grandma” Gomez, who passed away in November 2022, was honored with the “Groner Pitts Lifetime of Service Award.”
“Grandma” Gomez was the driving force behind the former Gomez’s Mexican Restaurant, which opened in Brownwood in 1958. Her decedents recently restored the family tradition by opening Gomez to Go Food Truck, which features much of the same menu “Grandma” Gomez shared with the community for well over 50 years.
Mayor Stephen Haynes introduced the family to a hearty standing ovation to close out the evening’s festivities.
