The third week of Dave Campbell’s Texas Football’s regular season rankings are out, and the Brownwood Lions are making their debut at No. 8 in Class 4A Division I.
Right on the heels of the Lions are their District 2-4A Division I rivals, the Lubbock Estacado Matadors, who come in at No. 9 this week – their first appearance in the poll in 2023.
The Lions (2-0) will visit Lubbock Estacado (2-0) on Thursday, Oct. 19 in a game many feel will determine the District 2-4A Division I champion.
The rest of the DCTF 4A Division I Top 10 in Week 3 includes No. 1 Tyler Chapel Hill, No. 2 Anna, No. 3 China Spring, No. 4 Boerne, No. 5 Celina, No. 6 Stephenville, No. 7 Kilgore, and No. 10 Somerset.
Brownwood has started its season with victories over 5A Division II Abilene Wylie (35-21) and Marble Falls (56-7). The Lions will host Burnet (1-1) in their second of six home games this season at 7:30 p.m. Friday.
Looking slightly ahead, Brownwood will also host No. 6 Stephenville (1-1) at 7:30 p.m. Friday, Sept. 29 in the pre-district finale.
The Lions are averaging 45.5 points and 397.7 yards per game thus far in 2023, while allowing just 14 points and 232.5 yards.
Comanche also remained ranked by DCTF in Class 3A Division II as the undefeated Indians (2-0) come in at No. 9 this week ahead of their 7:30 p.m. Friday trip to Early (1-1).
Also, the undefeated May Tigers come in at No. 6 in this week’s DCTF Class A Division I rankings ahead of their home opener against unbeaten, No. 3 Knox City. The 2-0 Richland Springs Coyotes are No. 8 in Class A Division II this week, according to DCTF, as they welcome Lometa in another battle of unbeatens Friday night.

Harris Ratings Weekly came out Tuesday where the Brownwood Lions improved two spots to No. 7 in the Class 4A Division I rankings.
The rest of the Top 10 is comprised of No. 1 Tyler Chapel Hill, No. 2 Anna, No. 3 China Spring, No. 4 Boerne, No. 5 Celina, No. 6 Stephenville, No. 8 Kilgore, No. 9 Frisco Panther Creek and No. 10 Alvarado.
Brownwood’s District 2-4A Division I rival Lubbock Estacado, ranked No. 9 by DCTF, is No. 16 in the Harris poll.
Comanche is also No. 9 in the Harris Class 3A Division II rankings.
