Howard Payne senior linebacker Peyton Lowe was named the American Southwest Conference Defensive Player of the Week following the Yellow Jackets’ 17-3 victory at George Fox in Saturday’s regular season opener.

Lowe (Gunter, Texas) anchored an HPU defense that kept George Fox out of the end zone behind a team-high eight tackles and forced fumble. Lowe was part of a unit that had two goal line stands versus the Bruins in what was a tight game throughout the night.

The Yellow Jackets (1-0) open the home portion of their schedule at 6 p.m. Saturday when they welcome Southwestern Assemblies of God to Gordon Wood Stadium.
