The Brownwood Police Department issued the following press release Friday morning:
On Thursday, August 24, 2023, at approximately 2:10 a.m., officers were dispatched to a residence in the 1600 block of Borden St regarding a report of a Domestic Disturbance. Officers were directed to the alleyway where a female was reportedly bleeding from the nose.
When officers arrived, Cpl. Jessica Risdon drove into the alleyway and observed a male standing in the alleyway who was waving for the officers. The male was identified as 38-year-old Roger Ray Powers. Powers explained that he arrived home and found his girlfriend lying on the floor, bleeding. Cpl. Risdon observed wet and dried blood on Powers hands and arms.
The female victim was observed exiting a nearby residence with blood smeared on her face. Powers remained with other officers while Cpl. Risdon interviewed the injured female. The female explained that she is dating Powers, and he arrived home intoxicated. An argument began, which escalated when Powers punched her with a closed fist. He then began punching her in the face and head while pulling her downward with her hair. Eventually the female fell over and he stopped his assault.
Cpl. Risdon returned to Powers and observed several areas of blood splatter on his shirt and jeans consistent with the information the victim provided.
The victim was transported to the Hendrick-Brownwood ER with apparent broken bones in her face. Powers was arrested and due to the severity of the victim’s injuries, he was charged with Aggravated Assault Causing Serious Bodily Injury. Powers was transported to the Brown County Jail without further incident.
