VERIBEST – The Early Lady Horns advanced to the finals of the silver bracket at the Veribest volleyball tournament Friday, winning matches over Paint Rock and Rochelle before being upended by Bangs in the finale.
In their 25-9, 25-6 victory over Paint Rock, Dakota Barksdale paced the attack with four kills followed by Matty Boswell and Grey Pruett with three apiece, and Jensyn Rasor and Gabby Benson with a pair each.
Benson served four aces while Pruett added two to go along with 15 assists.
Defensively for Early, Boswell led the way with seven digs followed by Jenna Hataway with three, Rasor with two and Benson with one.
Early then knocked off Rochelle, 25-19 and 25-16, as Rasor and Karley Smith paced the offense with two kills each followed by one each from Boswell, Barksdale and Benson.
Brooklyn McCullough served two aces while Pruett dished out seven assists.
Defensively, Boswell amassed three digs followed by Hataway with two, and Rasor with one.
In the 26-24, 25-22 finale against Bangs, Boswell and Rasor each recorded six kills for Early followed by Barksdale with three and Benson with two.
Pruett finished with 12 assists and Early did not serve an ace.
On the defensive end, Boswell and Hataway both collected five digs, and Benson and McCullough chipped in one each.
The Lady Horns (3-4) will be back in action at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday when they host Veribest.
