The Brownwood Fire Department issued the following press release Thursday afternoon regarding Wednesday’s wildfire near FM 2525:
The Brownwood Fire Department responded to a report of a grass fire on the railroad tracks just north of the Brownwood Wastewater Treatment Plant. Brownwood units arrived on scene to find a fast-moving grass fire, between the railroad tracks and the Pecan Bayou.
Due to the fire size and complexity the Early Fire Department, Zephyr Fire Department, Winchell Fire Department, Oncor, Brown County Emergency Management, TDEM, Brown County Pct. 3, Brown County Sheriff’s Office, and CERT were called to the scene to assist.
Equipment was staged on the east side of the Pecan Bayou in case the fire crossed over. TFS also responded with 2 dozers, 2 helicopters, and 1 maintainer to assist in establishing a containment line and fire suppression.
The forward progress of the fire was stopped at 6:14 p.m. on Wednesday. Crews remained on
the scene as of Thursday to mop up numerous hot spots. A total of 72 acres were burned.
The cause of the fire is undetermined.
