Jessica Blue has provided a unique fitness opportunity to the women of Brown County, as Queen Fitness Studio – a women’s only fitness studio and gym – opened its doors just over eight months ago.
Blue, 39, said the most rewarding aspect of owning and running her own gym is, “Getting to know ladies of all ages, sizes and backgrounds all in one place. Knowing they feel confident and comfortable walking in to workout is incredible. My brand is ‘Women and Children.’ Our community is understanding the hard work of the person beside you and lending a helping hand, whether it be holding your baby or spotting your last couple reps. All of our kiddos have bonded and love playing together in our kid crib. We will soon hold our very first Back to School Kids Boot Camp. The kiddos will work out, snack, receive a Queen Fitness T-shirt and win prizes.”
Reflecting on the decision to start Queen Fitness, Blue said, “I decided to open my own gym catered to women and children because it’s outside of the box. I knew it would be like no other gym I’ve ever walked into. I wanted to see women getting stronger and not be hiding in the corner of the workout floor, not just paying for a membership they’ll never use, and not be somewhere they would feel embarrassed about not knowing proper form or how to use particular machines.”
Running Queen Fitness has taught Blue plenty about herself, as well.
“I’ve realize my own potential as an athlete and an entrepreneur,” she said. “I was a stay at home mom and a part-time personal trainer for years. I was very busy but not ‘fulfilled.’ My staff and members say I’ve done a lot for them but they don’t know how much they’ve done for me. I didn’t think running the studio would allow me the time to teach classes and train but I’ve fit it in and I’m so glad. Educating these ladies about exercise and nutrition whether I’m on stage working out with them or I’m one-on-one on the workout floor with them makes me truly feel accomplished again.”
As for the impact Queen Fitness has made on the community in such a short amount of time, Blue said, “The ladies’ strength, endurance, and confidence has grown immensely. Friendships have been made and inches have been lost. We value the mental and emotional health of women more than we do the physical. This business and community as a whole has been everything I imagined and more. I see these ladies thriving together everyday and that is so rewarding. The members have gained knowledge of nutrition and exercise by attending classes, personal training, boot camps and connecting with our trainers and staff that are seasoned in the fitness industry. Everyone loves this place and that was my dream.”
Business hours are Monday through Friday from 5 a.n. to 9 p.m. and Saturday from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. Child care is available to those who attend.
Next up for Blue and Queen Fitness is a second location.
“Queen Fitness Studio’s next stop will be Bryan-College Station,” she said. “I was born and raised there and have a vision to continue to build at my forever home.”
