Chandler McCaskill is following in the family footprint after having her first child just over a year ago, as the 27-year-old has transitioned from teaching to the world of insurance and the Robnett Integra Insurance Agency.
“Robnett Integra Insurance Agency is my dad’s (David Robnett) agency that he’s had here since 1995,” she said. “He used to be an Allstate agent and made the change about 10 years ago into an independent agency. We offer insurance for home and auto and we do mainly personal lines and some commercial lines.”
McCaskill joined the business in October 2022, stating, “I had a baby last May so I stayed home with him over the summer. When I decided to come back to work, I used to be a school teacher so it wasn’t the plan to come into the agency right away. I though that would be a future thing but after having my son I realized I wanted something a little bit more flexible and family friendly.”
McCaskill graduated from Brownwood High School in 2014, Texas State University in 2018 and spent three years teaching, but eventually joining her father’s insurance agency was always in the cards.
“Whenever I went to school I studied business and have a marketing degree with a concentration in sales,” she said. “Business has always been my main goal. There had been discussions about coming into the agency. I got my license whenever I graduated but didn’t know how that would look until this past year.”
Regarding what she enjoys most about her new line of work, McCaskill said, “It’s an interesting time to come into the market. A lot of people have said it’s an unprecedented time and it’s never been like this, so I’ve learned a lot right now because of how rates are going. It’s been nice to learn about current customers’ policies and figuring out why they should stay in their policy or figuring out other options for them. The educating piece, I enjoy educating others about things, learning about things and then sharing that & that’s what I loved about teaching. Just that piece alone is really interesting to me and makes me happy and excited to come to work because I’m able to give people a piece of advice or knowledge that then is valuable to them and makes them understand why on your worst day you not only want to have insurance but an agent that is there for you and is going to make sure everything can go as according to plan as possible.”
Now working in the family business, McCaskill wants to see the company continue to expand.
“Growing as much as possible,” McCaskill said of her long-term business goals. “I love the marketing side as well so expanding on that as well. We already do a lot in the community and are very involved but just expand on that and bring in the younger generation to know who we are, our faces and what we’re about. That’s something I would like to grow and expand on in the community.”
Outside of work, McCaskill, her husband Ryder – who she married in 2021 – and son Case are members of Coggin Avenue Baptist Church.
“I moved back to Brownwood to plant our family roots here and now with my husband raise our children here,” she said. “The small town values and way of life has always been the environment I want my family in.”
McCaskill is closely involved with Howard Payne University, which is “very close to our hearts and so important to us,” and she also teaches swimming lessons in the summer, a hobby she’s enjoyed for a decade.
“I have taught swim lessons for nine or 10 years during the summer, and this year I taught private group lessons with a fellow teacher I worked with last year and that’s something I look forward to every year and enjoy,” she said. “That’s a piece of giving back to the community and giving kids a skill that’s so important for their future.”
