Beverly Ann (Meeks) Murray was born in Tucumcari, New Mexico in 1945 to James “Jim” Meeks and Flossie (Leamon) Meeks. Beverly passed from this world into the presence of her heavenly Father on July 15th, 2023, at the age of 80 years. Beverly passed due to complications caused by multiple strokes occurring in the last several months. Visitation for Beverly Murray will be Friday, July 21st, from 5-7PM at Heartland Funeral Home. Funeral services will be Saturday, July 22nd, at 2:00 also at Heartland. Honorary pallbearers for the service are Chase Murray, Carter Murray, Colton Murray, Zach Bond, Jon Kirbo, and Charles Cooper.
Beverly moved with her parents to Richland Springs, Texas, at the conclusion of World War II, in which her father had served. It was there that Beverly was raised on her parent’s farm and ranch. She loved farm life as a kid and treasured her parents and childhood. Beverly attended school in Richland Springs where she graduated high school in 1962. She also went on to graduate beauty college and was a licensed cosmetologist.
Beverly married her high school sweetheart Glenn Murray in 1962. Together, they had three sons- James Kelly Murray, Sammy Glenn Murray, and Micheal Brandon Murray. The family moved to Houston, Texas, to pursue career opportunities.
Beverly was a housewife in the early years, where she stayed active volunteering at her sons’ school. She also volunteered at local thrift stores. Beverly was an amazing cook and baker. She pursued a career as a professional baker, cake decorator, and bakery manager. She worked at several flagship bakeries for Randall’s in the Houston area. Beverly completed numerous schools on baking and decorating. She was named employee of the year for the Randall’s corporation as a result of her skills, work ethic, and excellent customer relations. Beverly worked as a baker/decorator for many years before retiring due to a bout with cancer.
In 2001, Beverly returned to country life where she moved to Brownwood, which is where she resided until her death.
Beverly was passionate about her family and her pets. She was always quick to brag on her sons and grandkids. She loved her fur babies and spoiled them rotten. It seemed that she always had a dachshund or two to cook supper for.
Beverly had a special knack for telling tall tales and exaggerating stories. She particularly like to tell her grandkids about the misdeeds of their fathers when they were growing up. If she couldn’t recall a juicy tale, truth was often a casualty, and she would create the story as needed. Her mendacious mischief will be fondly remembered, especially now that she has been outed.
She was also quite the contrary, outspoken, octogenarian. One time she went to see one of her many doctors. The Dr. refused to see her that day exclaiming he was too afraid because of her grumpy nature, so he sent a junior resident doctor in to see her. When the resident walked in, she exclaimed that she was so glad to see him and not that other guy. Her personality could be much like that of a sour patch kid- first they are sour, then they are sweet.
Beverly was a member of Coggin Avenue Baptist Church, had been active in Senior Citizens, and was a member of the Red Hat Society. She loved to fish, enjoyed traveling around the world and had an adventurous heart. It was hard not to love her spunky spirit and she will be greatly missed. The family extends its thanks to her many caregivers through this final journey.
Beverly is survived by her three sons: Kelly Murray (Thomas) of Rosharon, Texas, Sammy Murray (Candy) of Houston, Texas, and Micheal Murray (Mary) of Brownwood, Texas; six grandchildren: Chase, Carter, and Colton Murray and Marley, Maddison, and Mclayne Murray; four great grandchildren, several nieces and nephews, her ex-husband Glenn Murray, and her favorite physician, who she often portrayed as one of her sons, Charles Cooper. She was preceded in death by her mother and father, three infant siblings, and some of her dearest friends.
