William Jones Sr., age 68 of Bangs, went home to his Lord on Friday, June 30th, 2023. Visitation will be held on Friday, July 14th from 5 pm to 7 pm at Brownwood Funeral Home, 2512 Belle Plain, Brownwood. Funeral services will be held at 1pm on Saturday, July 15 at New Testament Holiness Church, 7550 CR 169 in Bangs. Burial Will follow at Bangs Cemetery.
William Lloyd Jones, Sr. was born to John C. and Laura Jones on March 29, 1955 in Austin County in a community called Shelby, Texas. William accepted Christ at an early age at County Line Missionary Church in Shelby, Texas. He attended elementary school in Industry, Texas. He later attended and graduated from Bellville High School in Bellville, Texas. William excelled in school and was very active in
4-H, FFA, and Sports, especially Baseball (scholarship level).
William’s Dad taught him to play the guitar. At the age of 9, William began playing for gospel groups such as The Spiritual Light Sisters, The Spiritual Light Brothers and Prayer Steppers of Industry, Texas. William was an excellent and exceptional guitar player. He also traveled with his family doing revivals. In 1970 William was called to the ministry.
In 1974 William married Peggy Madison. To this union three children, Ethel, William Jr. and Josephine, were born. During this time, William had several types of employment which included Rudloff Brick and Tile in Breham, Texas. Later William started his own business, William Jones Construction, in which he was a professional Brick Mason.
In 1978 William joined and help organize a quartet gospel group known as The Original Soul Invaders in which he was the Lead Guitarist. The group is still singing and praising the Lord!
In 1982 William married Betty Crayton and in 1986 they adopted a little boy named Joshua.
In 1983 William accepted the call to become the Pastor of The Corinth Missionary Baptist Church in Giddings,0 Texas where he served for thirteen years. During this time he was affiliated with several organizations such as Lee County Ministerial Alliance, Giddings-Dime Box Ministerial Alliance, Lee County Mental Retardation Agency, Local and Foreign missions, christian radio program and helped to organize a gospel group called The Genesis. In 1988 William help to organize The Mars Hill Tabernacle in Fayetteville, Texas under the leadership of Pastor Roy Green, Jr.
In 1993 William established and organized Truth Ministries of Jesus Christ Outreach and continued supporting local and foreign missions. In 1999 William and his family relocated to Bangs, Texas, where he continued his ministry and fellowship with New Testament Holiness Church under the leadership of Pastor Ronnie White.
William Lloyd Jones, Sr. was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers Clinton Wayne Jones and John C. Jones, Jr., and paternal and maternal grandparents.
He leaves a legacy of love of Jesus Christ to his loving wife Betty Jones, his children Ethel Jones of Sugarland, Texas, William (Brigette) Jones, Jr. of Giddings, Texas, Josephine Jones of Katy, Texas and Joshua Jones of Coleman, Texas. his sister Carol (Eartell, Jr.) Callis of Killeen, Texas and brother Bren (Norma) Jones of San Marcos, Texas, 12 grandchildren, 2 great grandchildren and a host of relatives and friends.
