Though just 24 years old, Amy Constancia is certain she wants Brown County to remain her home the rest of her life.
A Tarleton State University graduate, Constancia returned to Brownwood after college graduation and has found a home at the Early Visitors and Event Center, where she serves as the marketing assistant.
“I’ve been here since January 2022, so about a year and a half,” she said. “I’m in charge of doing tours at the event center. If anybody is interested in coming and renting it out for a party or wedding or anything like that, I’m usually the one they talk to. I’m the first person they see when they walk through the door. We are a visitors center as well so we have a lot different people from out of town asking different questions, as well as people from the community, looking for maps or things to do in the area. I also run all our social media and I create all of our marketing materials whether that’s fliers or helping market events or ads online.”
Regarding the most rewarding aspects of her job, Constancia said, “I honestly enjoy it all. I tell my family and my husband all the time when I went to school at Tarleton I knew what I wanted to do, work with the community, work with events and bring people joy, I just didn’t know how and where God was going to lead me. I feel so blessed being here because I’m able to not only work with the community, but I also enjoy creating and I’ve been able to do that through photography and fliers. That’s how I put my artistic gift into play by marketing different events.”
One particular event that is near and dear to Constancia is the Brownwood Arts Council’s Cinco de Mayo celebration through the streets of downtown. Representing the Early Visitors and Events Center on the committee this year, Constancia enjoyed an expanded role.
“Cinco de Mayo is really close to my heart,” she said. “Last year was my first with Visit Early and we were able to put up a booth up. In 2023, I was able to be on the committee and was the lead for Visit Early and did all the marketing for Cinco. It went from being one of my favorite events to something I was able to be a part of on a bigger scale.”
Constancia also plays a pivotal role in Early’s “Movies in the Park,” another of the activities for which she has a great love.
“I was able to take more of the lead with this one because I like to do more of the community events for younger audiences,” she said. “Movie in the Park focuses and targets that younger generation. We do movies and vendors and costume contests, we eat s’mores and popcorn all at McDonald Park. Last year was the first time I was involved with that and I fell in love with it.”
Constancia is also a youth leader at Milton Baptist Church along with husband Jose, where the two met nine years ago. The couple married on Sept. 16, 2022 and Jose is a firefighter in Early.
“It’s so cool that now we get to serve together there,” she said. “I’m the clerk/secretary there as well and run their social media and also market their events. I’ve been able to use what I do for work for ministry.”
Regarding what the future holds for Constancia, she’s not completely certain other than she wants to continue residing in Brown County.
“I just want to be able to do what I’m called to do,” she said. “Honestly I want to stay here and retire here. This town is like family to me. I’ve been here since I was 13 or 14, so to grow up here, seeing it grow, being a part of that growth, I just feel really blessed.”
