“You can’t put an age on style,” is the motto of Reeanna Grace, who at 22 years of age has opened her own boutique in downtown Brownwood – Grits and Grace.
After spending nearly three years selling clothing online, Grits and Grace opened its doors at 110 N. Fisk Avenue just over six months ago.
“I worked in retail all through high school and decided I didn’t want to work for a big corporation, I wanted to do my own thing retail-wise selling clothes and making women feel confident,” Grace said. “I brought the idea up to some family members and told them it was what I wanted to do. They asked if I was sure and was serious and I told them yes and got the help I needed and took off from there.”
Regarding the decision to open a brick and mortar business, Grace said with a laugh, “Honestly I was tired of having it all in my spare bedroom and wanted my house back. I saw the building come available and went down and talked to the owner and we got offered a deal and I took it. I was ready at that point and was at a point where I could and had a more lax schedule at my other job so I was able to do that.”
Business has been booming since the opening of the store, according to Grace.
“It’s crazy busy and I love it,” Grace said. “I stay busy online and ship all across the U.S. as well as the store. It’s been crazy busy but it’s my favorite thing.”
Grits and Grace offers, “women’s clothing in sizes small to XXL,” Grace said. “We have accessories, jewelry, lots of gift items, shoes, denim, bottoms, skirts, shorts, everything women’s clothing wise.”
Grace is the daughter of Joe and Marie Smith and the niece of Marisha Parvis and Cliff Ross. She graduated from Brownwood High School in 2019.
“I did a semester of college and decided it wasn’t for me so I came back home,” she said.
Grace also works for Cen-Tex Equipment Sales as the office manager.
“I’m at Cen-Tex when I need to be and at the store when I can,” Grace said.
Regarding future plans for Grits and Grace, Grace said, “I’m hoping to expand one day. We’re getting to a point where we’re trying to figure out ways to make our area bigger. Hopefully in the years to come I’ll have a store in another location, venture out from Brownwood, but also still have the store here and have two locations. That’s years from now but it’s the dream.”
