According to the report, a 2015 Dodge Avenger passenger car driven by 31-year-old Eric Jerome Davis of Big Spring was traveling south on State Highway 36 and was fleeing from Hamilton County Sheriff’s Office (HCSO) Deputies in commission of a felony offense.
A 2008 Buick Lucerne passenger car and a 2007 Mercury Milan passenger car were stopped in a parking lot on the north side of the intersection of SH 36 and US Highway 67 (US 67). The Buick was disabled, and the Mercury was parked in front of it with a pedestrian attempting to connect a tow chain between the two vehicles. The pedestrian was laying under the front of the Buick connecting a tow chain as the Dodge was approaching. The driver of the Dodge traveled over an overpass at a high rate of speed approaching a stop light-controlled intersection, failing to stop. The driver of the Dodge disregarded the stop light, losing control of the vehicle and crashing into the Buick and the Mercury.
The pedestrian was pronounced dead on the scene of the crash. The driver of the Dodge was taken into custody by HCSO deputies and transported to Comanche County Medical Center where he was released after treatment to the Comanche County Sheriff Chris Pounds and booked into the jail.
