The Brownwood Police Department issued the following press release Monday:
On Sunday, June 11, 2023, at approximately 11:50pm, Officer James Holdar was patrolling by Barron’s Auto on East Commerce when he observed the pipe-gate standing open. A closer inspection revealed that the gate was damaged as if a vehicle was driven through it. A front license plate was also located at the damaged gate.
Contact was made with the property owners, and they were informed of the observations. It was believed that a vehicle was stolen from the lot. The owners explained that they recently repossessed the vehicle that was described by the license plate, and she suspected the previous driver, 22-year-old Journey Lynn Jones stole it.
Officers began searching for the vehicle and at approximately 12:30 a.m., they located it at Festival Park on Milam Drive. Jones was also found sleeping in the driver’s seat. Jones explained to officers that she stole the vehicle because she was homeless and she also admitted to having methamphetamine and a marijuana bong inside the vehicle.
Jones was arrested and charged with Criminal Mischief as well as Unauthorized use of a Motor Vehicle and Possession of a Controlled Substance PG1
