At 6:50 a.m. Friday, May 26, the Brownwood Fire Department responded to a call of a structure fire at 2801 Southside Drive, Apt. 104.
Upon arrival the fire was contained to the interior of the structure and attic area. This is a six unit apartment building with only one unit being effected by fire. The occupant was not living there due to roof damage from a previous storm. Firefighters extinguished the fire on the second floor of the apartment. Firefighters then ventilated smoke from the apartment building and performed overhaul checking for fire extension. The fire is under investigation and started in the second floor rear bedroom. There were no reported injuries.
It took 39 minutes to get the fire under control and units were on the scene for 2 hours and 57 minutes. The cause of the fire, which caused $150,000 in damages, is still under investigation.
Chief 9, Chief 92, Truck 9, Engine 9, and Engine 92 all responded with assistance from the Early Fire Department, Lifeguard Ambulance, and Brownwood Police Department.
