KYLE – Blanket Lady Tiger sophomore Karli Kinkade continued a family tradition Tuesday, bringing home a medal from the two-day, 36-hole UIL Girls Golf Class A State Tournament at Plum Creek Golf Course.
Kinkade earned her second bronze medal in her second consecutive state trip after posting rounds of 85 Monday and 88 Tuesday to record a 173 composite score, which left her tied with Rylee Wood (89-84-173) of Garden City for second place. Wood won a playoff for the silver medal, while Kinkade captured the bronze and Happy’s Halee Jo Johnson (95-76=161) won the state championship.
Kinkade is coached at Blanket by her sister Marki Kinkade, who won two team state championships, two individual state championships and finished second individually during her time as a Lady Tiger. Lucas Kinkade, the girls’ brother who recently wrapped up his golf career at Howard Payne, also captured an individual state championship while at Blanket.
In the final team standings, Garden City (374-356=730) won the state championship trailed by silver medalist Veribest (390-382=772) and bronze medalist Eula (432-427=859).
