During Tuesday’s meeting of the Brownwood Municipal Development District Board of Directors, BMDD Executive Director Ray Tipton stated the Home 2 Suites location, being built behind Studebaker’s at 406 East Commerce, is targeting an October opening.
Tipton also stated incentive payments to the hotel will begin as soon as the construction of a 20-foot storm drain is complete.
Also during the meeting, Tipton stated renovations at the former Kroger location, at 302 N. Main Street, continue.
“He’s wrapping us his plan,” Tipton said of the new owner of the building, “and it will be a pretty significant remodel. I know he’s going to bust the entire slab inside and re-pour it and I think the whole facing out of it, as far as the porch that comes out, is going to be removed. It’ll be a pretty significant transformation.”
Tipton has yet to reveal the businesses that will be moving into the location.
The revamped pickleball and tennis courts at Coggin Park have been completed and should open later this week, Tipton told the Board.
“I think they turned out great and I like the color they finished them out with,” Tipton said. “I like that it’s a different color than it was because people realize something actually happened there.”
Road construction is beginning at the Trafalgar Homes site at the intersection of Milam and Indian Creek, where multiple homes are almost ready for move in.
“It’s been a weird project where the construction part has outpaced the infrastructure part, which is probably unusual, but that’s just how it shook out this time,” Tipton said.
Asbestos abatement continues at the site of the former OYO Hotel with no timeline for completion. Once finished, however, demolition of the buildings are expected to soon follow, Tipton said.
