The Brownwood Public Library has a new service for the citizens of Brown County: a “Virtual Court” computer kiosk. The kiosk is made available through a partnership with the Texas Legal Services Center as part of their Virtual Court Access Project, a statewide pilot program aiming to improve low-income Texans’ ability to receive free legal services. The computer kiosks are designed for accessibility, and are funded by the Texas Access to Justice Foundation.
The kiosk serves as a virtual legal aid center. The computer station includes a scanner, if documents need to be scanned and sent to a court in another town. The station also includes a camera and microphone, for online, virtual court hearings. For privacy, the kiosk station can be moved into a private room if requested. If needed for a virtual court hearing, the Library can reserve a time on the kiosk in advance for you.
Patrons can also use the kiosk to download legal documents and forms, access legal research, and to communicate with Texas Legal Services.
As with all Brownwood Public Library programs, there is no charge for the use of this service.
