The Howard Payne University softball team split a road double-header at Concordia University Texas 6-14 and 7-4 to claim the conference series 2-1 over the Tornados.
Game One
Howard Payne was outhit 14-12 and committed three errors leading to a 14-6 Concordia final in game one of the double-header.
Down 9-2, the Lady Jackets posted a four-run fifth inning but the Tornados responded with four runs of their own in the bottom of the inning to put the game out of reach.
Maddison Cason led HPU at the plate going 3-for-4 with a stolen base. Simonne Sanders and Makayla Welsey both followed going 2-for-3 with a RBI and a double.
Heather Wineman got the loss in the start for HPU allowing 14 runs on 14 hits in the complete game.
Game Two
HPU used a three-run second and fourth innings to gain a 7-2 advantage. The Lady Jackets would hold off a seventh inning rally by CTX to claim the 7-4 victory and the conference series 2-1.
Maddison Cason shined again in game two going 3-for-4 with 3 RBI and a triple. Shortstop Zoie Garcia also went 3-for-4 at the plate and Madison Forrester followed with two hits.
Bree Cason improved to 9-9 on the year with the win in the circle. In the complete game, she allowed four runs on eight hits. It was her tenth complete game of the season.
The Lady Jackets have now won nine of their last 12 games to improve to 14-22 overall and 7-18 in American Southwest Conference action. Concordia falls to 18-18 overall and 9-15 in league play. Howard Payne will finish out its regular season on the road next weekend at McMurry University in Abilene, Texas.
