STEPHENVILLE – The District 8-3A runner-up Early Longhorns concluded their regular season with a 7-5 victory over the Dublin Lions Friday night ina a game moved to Tarleton State University due to the threat of thunderstorms.
Early finished with six hits, drew nine walks and was aided by three Dublin errors.
Offensive standouts included Ki Houston with two hits and two RBIs; Jaxyn Price with a hit and a pair of RBIs; Ethan Pallette and Riley Hill with one hit and an RBI apiece; and Caydon Laird chipped in a hit as well.
Tied at 5 in the top of the eighth inning, Price doubled on the first pitch of his at-bat to score the decisive runs.
On the mound, Laird worked 6.1 innings and gave up five runs – three earned – on two hits with 11 strikeouts and seven walks. Price tossed 1.2 innings to relief to notch the win, yielding no runs on one hit with three strikeouts and two walks.
The Longhorns will face District 7-3A third seed Jacksboro (21-7-1, 8-4) in the bi-district round of the playoffs next weekend.
