LUBBOCK – Brownwood junior Ike Hall became the school’s second UIL Class 4A track and field state championships qualifier Friday morning as he captured the gold medal in the Region I-4A boys triple jump.
Hall, who also won the District 6-4A and 5-4A/6-4A area meet championships in the triple jump, finished first Friday at Lowrey Field with a best leap of 45-6.5.
Hall bested runner-up and fellow state qualifier Shaquorie Butler of Canyon Randall (44-10.75) by more than a foot and a half.
Hall joins Lady Lion freshman Hannah Deen, who in the first event of the day Friday qualified for state in the girls high jump with a second-place effort of 5-5, her personal best.
The UIL Class 4A track and field state championships will take place Thursday, May 11 at the University of Texas Myers Stadium in Austin.
Brownwood has a total of 18 entrants at the regional track meet, which continues this afternoon and Saturday.
