Howard Payne University’s Department of Music will present the Brownwood Community Chorus and HPU Concert Choir in “Ain-A that Good News and other Spirituals” on Tuesday, May 2, at 7:30 p.m. Admission is free to the concert, which will be held in Grace Chapel on the HPU campus.
“This program will include timeless arrangements of familiar tunes from the African American spiritual tradition,” said Dr. Christopher Rosborough, associate professor of music and director of choral activities at HPU. “Music by famed composers Moses Hogan, William Dawson, Jester Hairston and others will be heard during the performance. Please join us for an exciting evening of choral music!”
Arielle Sword, special guest and 2003 HPU graduate, will join the choirs as the soprano soloist for the evening. The accomplished educator and performer is currently the choir director at Stephenville High School.
The choir is under the direction of Dr. Rosborough and will be accompanied by pianist Dean Kiesling.
