COLEMAN – The Bangs Dragons hit another bump in the road en route to the postseason Tuesday afternoon, suffering their third District 7-2A loss in the last four outings, 6-3 at Coleman.
With the loss, the Dragons (17-8-2, 7-4) fell into a third-place tie with Miles (15-7, 7-4), a game back of second-place Coleman (13-9, 8-3) with one contest remaining in league action. Hamilton (20-9, 11-0), which has already clinched the 7-2A championship, visits Coleman Friday.
Against Coleman Tuesday, the Dragons fell behind 2-0 in the bottom of the first inning but cut the deficit in half, 2-1, in the top of the fifth. The Bluecats answered with two more runs in the bottom of the fifth for a 4-1 lead, but the Dragons crept within 4-3 in the top of the sixth. Coleman then tacked on two more insurance runs in the bottom of the sixth for the final margin.
Bangs mustered just two hits – doubles by Skylar Minshew and Kenny Cole – walked four times and was aided by three Bluecat errors.
On the mound, Cole yielded six runs – three earned – on three hits with seven strikeouts and six walks over five innings. Kade Minshew worked the sixth, striking out two and walking one, with no runs allowed.
Bangs wraps up the regular season at Winters at 4:30 p.m. Friday.
