Ellis La Costa Ivey, 97, of Brownwood and Denver City, Texas joined our Lord in Heaven on April 15, 2023. She was born March 25, 1926 in Cement, Oklahoma to Jasper and Ada Edwards.
La Costa, as she was known by family and friends, had a 32 year career in banking in Denver City, Texas, before retiring to move to Brownwood, where she lived for the past 40 years. She was an active member of the Lake Brownwood First United Methodist Church, serving most recently as its bookkeeper and treasurer. Over the past 30 years she has served in almost every leadership position in the church and has been lovingly described as its matriarch. La Costa was a lifelong creative spirit, focusing on oil painting, crocheting, and exquisite, handmade Christmas ornaments at different times in her life. She was an animal lover with a history of beloved dogs and cats throughout her life. She will be remembered for her kindness, her strong faith in Christ, her love and gratitude for her family and friends, and her willingness to get involved whenever she was able to help others.
La Costa was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Buff Ivey, her sister Marie Acker, and her bothers Kenneth and Bobby Edwards.
La Costa is survived by her nephews, Kenneth J Edwards, Jr., of Friendswood, Texas, Kyle Edwards of Las Vegas, Nevada, and nieces Delisa Crickett and Shawn Asturi of Las Vegas, Nevada, and Norma Bartholomew of Fort Worth, Texas, along with numerous step-nephews and nieces and grand nephews and nieces.
Her family will host a visitation on Tuesday, April 25th from 5 to 7 pm at Heartland Funeral Home. Graveside services will be 2 pm on Wednesday April 26th at the Denver City Memorial Park Cemetery in Denver City, Texas under the direction of Heartland Funeral Home in Early.
