EARLY – The Early Longhorns rebounded from a heart-wrenching 11-inning loss at Breckenridge Tuesday to record a 9-0 shutout victory over the Comanche Indians in District 8-3A baseball action Friday night.
With Breckenridge’s 12-2 loss to fourth-place Peaster Friday night, the Longhorns (14-7, 9-3) regained sole possession of second place in the district behind Brock with just two games remaining.
Caydon Laird tossed 6.2 innings, recording 14 strikeouts, four walks and allowing just three hits to notch the victory.
The Longhorns generated nine hits led by Laird with three – including a triple and a double – and three RBIs; two from Cooper Jacobs; a two-run home run from Caleb McCullough; a single and an RBI by J.D. Nowell; and hits from Ethan Pallette and Ki Houston.
Early scored once in the second inning, added two runs each in the third and fifth, and tacked on four runs in the bottom of the sixth.
The playoff-bound Longhorns host Eastland at 7 p.m. Tuesday and travel to Dublin at 7 p.m. Friday to wrap up the regular season.
