The 47th annual KBWD/KOXE Cherry Pie Auction is slated for 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, April 22 at the Adams Street Community Center.
Started in 1977 by Dallas Huston and Bill Jamar, the Cherry Pie Auction benefits youngster who participate in Brownwood Freshman League Baseball, the Brownwood Girls Softball Association, Cen-Tex Soccer, and Soccer for Fun.
For the second time in its history, and first time in 45 years, Hall of Fame broadcaster Dallas Huston will be making his own cherry pie for the auction. Huston’s first pie, which was made in a jar, drew over $2,000 in bids.
As in years past, items up for bid will include pies, cakes, and additional baked goods, as well as sports memorabilia and goods and services provided by area businesses. New this year, Street Dreams Car Club will be putting on a car show and providing hot dogs for those in attendance, Pops ice cream truck will be on site, and the opportunity the throw a pie in the face of BrownwoodNews.com and KOXE’s Derrick Stuckly – and potentially others – will be available to the highest bidder at the end of the event.
Among the sports items up for bid are autographed golf balls by Jordan Spieth and Lee Trevino, autographed baseballs by Nolan Ryan and Adrian Beltre, autographed golf caps by Rickie Fowler and Hideki Matsuyami, a DeMarcus Ware autographed football and mini-helmet, an autographed Emmitt Smith rookie card, an autographed Ricky Williams University of Texas football helmet, an autographed shirt by former NFL star and Brownwood native Kenny Vaccaro, and an autographed baseball by current Los Angeles Dodger and Brownwood High graduate Shelby Miller.
More than 1,500 boys and girls participate, and every penny raised goes directly to those youth sports programs.
