The Brownwood Lions and Lady Lions are sending a total of 23 entrants to the District 5-4A/6-4A area track meet at Abilene Wylie High School Friday.
The top four finishers in each varsity event earned a spot in the area field, and the top four finishers in each event Friday will advance to the Region I-4A meet in Lubbock April 28-29.
Area meet action begins with the 3200 meters and field events at 11 a.m., while the running finals start at 4 p.m. Girls triple jump and discus and boys shot put, high jump and pole vault will be contested at 11 a.m. Girls shot put and high jump and boys discus and long jump will compete at 12:30 p.m. Field events conclude at 2 p.m. with the girls long jump and pole vault and boys triple jump. The running finals will follow the traditional schedule beginning with the sprint relay.
Competing for the Lady Lions Friday will be district champions Sidney Windham in the 800 meters (2:26.24) and the 4×400 relay of Kate Tindol, Windham, Hannah Deen and Braycee Lee (4:12.17).
Also advancing as district runners-up were Deen in the long jump (15-11.75), high jump (5-3) and 300-meter hurdles (48.99); Tindol in the 100 meters (12.75) and the 200 meters (27.0); Lee in the 200 meters (1:01.14); and Jaslin Jones in the discus (96-6).
Earning a ticket to Abilene with third-place district efforts were the 4×200 relay of Talia Clifton, Miranda Northcutt, Icess Hall and Kyleigh Caperton (1:53.27), and Deen in the girls triple jump (32-10).
Area-qualifying fourth-place performances belonged to Hall in the 100 meters (13.4) and Haylee Adkins in the 1600 meters (6:03.74).
For the Lions, district championships were secured by the 4×100 relay of Morsello Hooker, Brayden Daub, Aaron Edmonds and Tyse Savage (43.83); the 4×200 relay of Hooker, Edmonds, Daub and Savage (1:30.93); Savage in the 200 meters (22.7); and Ike Hall in the boys triple jump (44-5.75).
Securing area berths as district runners-up were Jordyn Nickerson in the 100 meters (11.37) and Sam Kallman in the boys discus (128-8).
District bronze medalists making the trip to Abilene for the Lions are Edmonds in the 200 meters (23.37), while advancing in fourth place were Jake Jetton in the 100 meters (11.42), Trent Loftin in the 110-meter hurdles (16.34), and Edmonds in the boys long jump (19-9).
