LUBBOCK – After Wednesday’s conclusion of the first of two rounds of Region I-4A tournament golf at Shadow Hills, the Brownwood Lions are in the driver’s seat for one of three berths to the state tournament.
The District 6-4A champion Lions fired an opening round 305, good for third place trailing only Andrews (299) and Canyon Randall (304), while holding off fourth-place Monahans (309).
Brownwood was led by Sir Bubba Jones’ round of 73 along with a 76 from Cobe Walker, 78s from Caleb Modawell and 6-4A individual champion Hudson Reagan and an 85 from Slayde Espinoza. Competing as a medalist, Luke Gray fired a 97.
Jones’ round was good for a tie for 6th place while Walker is tied for 12th place, and Reagan and Modawell are in a tie for 20th place heading into the second round.
The final 18 holes will be played Thursday with the top three teams, and top three individuals not on a qualifying team, advancing to the UIL Class 4A boys golf state tournament at Legends Golf Course in Kingsland May 22-23.
