BRECKENRIDGE – The 15th-ranked Early Lady Horns clinched at least a share of the District 8-3A softball championship with a 13-4 road victory over Breckenridge Tuesday.
The Lady Horns (25-4-2, 12-1), who conclude their regular season slate at 5 p.m. Friday when they host Comanche, lead second-place Brock by one game in the district standings with one game left for both teams.
Against Breckenridge, Early led 2-1 after one inning, 7-3 after two, 8-3 after three, 9-3 after four, 11-4 after five and the Lady Horns tacked on their final two runs in the seventh.
Early generated 17 hits, drew three walks and Breckenridge committed a pair of errors.
Marissa Reedy led the attack with four hits and two RBIs followed by Teagan Lopez with three hits and a pair of RBIs, Jordan Simmons with three hits and one RBI, and Stoney Laughlin and Brooklyn McCullough with a pair of hits and two RBIs apiece. Grace LaRue also chipped in a hit and two RBIs, Aubrey Greaves added one hit and drove in one, and Trinity Torrez singled as well.
In the circle, Lopez tossed all seven innings and allowed four runs – one earned – on seven hits with six strikeouts and one walk.
