HPU’s Symphonic Band and the Central Texas Community Band, under the direction of Frank Nelson, will present the 28th Annual American Music Spectacular on April 25.
The Howard Payne University Symphonic Band and the Central Texas Community Band will present the 28th Annual American Music Spectacular on Tuesday, April 25. The combined concert, “U.S.A. Musical Experience,” will honor veterans and current military personnel as well as law enforcement and other first responders. The free event is open to the public and will be held at 7:30 p.m. in HPU’s Mims Auditorium, with doors opening at 7:00 p.m.
Beginning at 5:30 p.m. in front of Mims Auditorium, the concert will be preceded by performances by the New Horizons Band, the HPU Jazz Combo and the Chris Ewen Experience, a group of HPU students. At that time, a food truck will also be available for guests to enjoy.
The American Music Spectacular will feature some of the country’s most-loved folk songs such as “Shenandoah,” “Cotton Eyed Joe” and “Marches,” as well as music from some of America’s classic Western films including How the West Was Won, The Magnificent Seven and Silverado.
“This concert event has become a popular tradition in the Heart of Texas region,” said Frank Nelson, assistant professor of music and director of bands at HPU and conductor of the Central Texas Community Band. “It is a celebration of the American spirit and those who have put their lives on the line to help secure our safety, freedom and democracy. You will not want to miss this amazing night of musical celebration in honor of America and its heroes.”
